Frozen Embryo Transfer Preparation
Your preparation for a frozen embryo transfer begins on the 2nd or 3rd day of your menstrual cycle. Before this, if your general screening tests have not been performed in the last 6 months, they must be repeated:
Anti-HCV
HIV
HBsAg
Anti-HBC IgM
Syphilis (VDRL)
TSH, T3, T4
On the 2nd or 3rd day of your period:
Vaginal ultrasound is performed to evaluate the endometrium (uterine lining) and the ovaries.
Estradiol and Progesterone tests are conducted.
The results should be sent to our center on the same day.
If the ultrasound shows a thin endometrium, no remaining follicle from the previous cycle, and blood tests are normal, then medication will be started according to the list we provide.
You will use medication for about 10–12 days. During this time, you will need to have your uterine lining monitored and your hormones checked. Once the uterine lining reaches the desired thickness and the last hormone tests are normal, the transfer medications will begin, and the transfer day will be scheduled.

The Transfer Procedure
The transfer itself is a simple procedure that does not require anesthesia. You do not need to fast beforehand. You only need to drink some water to have a full bladder. With the help of a catheter under abdominal ultrasound guidance, the embryos are placed into the uterus. After the transfer, you will rest for about 30 minutes, and then you will be discharged with your medication instructions.
You may travel on the same day of the transfer without any risk.

After the Transfer
A blood pregnancy test is required 12 days after transfer. In the event of pregnancy, it is essential that you inform us of the result, as your medications will need to continue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Frozen Embryo Transfer
What is frozen embryo transfer?
Frozen embryo transfer is an IVF procedure in which previously frozen embryos are thawed and transferred into the uterus after the uterine lining is prepared with medication.
When does frozen embryo transfer preparation begin?
Preparation usually begins on the 2nd or 3rd day of the menstrual cycle. At this stage, ultrasound and hormone tests are performed to check whether the uterus and ovaries are ready for treatment.
Which tests are needed before frozen embryo transfer?
If general screening tests have not been performed in the last 6 months, tests such as Anti-HCV, HIV, HBsAg, Anti-HBC IgM, syphilis, TSH, T3, and T4 may need to be repeated.
What is checked on the 2nd or 3rd day of the period?
A vaginal ultrasound is performed to evaluate the endometrium and ovaries. Estradiol and progesterone blood tests are also checked to confirm that treatment can safely begin.
Why is endometrial thickness important?
Endometrial thickness is important because the embryo needs a healthy and suitable uterine lining for implantation. The transfer is planned when the lining reaches the desired thickness.
How long does preparation take before frozen embryo transfer?
Medication is usually used for about 10 to 12 days. During this period, the uterine lining and hormone levels are monitored before the transfer date is scheduled.
What happens if the uterine lining is too thin?
If the endometrium is thin, medication may be adjusted or treatment may be continued until the lining becomes suitable for embryo transfer.
Is anesthesia needed for frozen embryo transfer?
No. Frozen embryo transfer is a simple procedure and usually does not require anesthesia.
Do I need to fast before embryo transfer?
No. Fasting is not required before frozen embryo transfer because anesthesia is not used.
Why should the bladder be full before transfer?
A full bladder helps improve ultrasound visibility and makes it easier to guide the catheter during embryo transfer.
How is the embryo transfer performed?
The embryos are placed into the uterus through a thin catheter under abdominal ultrasound guidance. The procedure is usually quick and comfortable.
How long do I rest after embryo transfer?
After the transfer, patients usually rest for about 30 minutes before being discharged with medication instructions.
Can I travel on the same day after frozen embryo transfer?
Yes. Patients may travel on the same day after embryo transfer without additional risk, unless the doctor gives a different recommendation.
When is the pregnancy test done after frozen embryo transfer?
A blood pregnancy test is usually performed 12 days after embryo transfer.
What should I do if the pregnancy test is positive?
If the pregnancy test is positive, you should inform the clinic immediately because medications usually need to continue as part of pregnancy support.
Should medications continue after embryo transfer?
Yes. Medications prescribed after transfer should be continued exactly as instructed by the doctor. They should not be stopped without medical advice.
Does frozen embryo transfer guarantee pregnancy?
No. Frozen embryo transfer does not guarantee pregnancy. Success depends on embryo quality, uterine lining, hormone levels, age, medical history, and overall treatment planning.
Is frozen embryo transfer painful?
Frozen embryo transfer is usually not painful. Some patients may feel mild pressure or discomfort similar to a gynecological examination.
What should patients consider before frozen embryo transfer?
Patients should complete required tests, send results on time, use medications regularly, attend ultrasound and hormone monitoring, and follow all transfer-day instructions.
Why choose Cyprus American IVF Center for frozen embryo transfer?
Cyprus American IVF Center prepares each frozen embryo transfer plan individually, monitors endometrial development and hormone levels carefully, and guides patients step by step through the treatment process.
