What Is Hydrosalpinx Surgery?
Hydrosalpinx is a condition in which the fallopian tubes become filled with fluid. It usually occurs as a result of previous infections, pelvic inflammatory diseases, or damage to the tubes. This condition can impair the normal function of the tubes and make it more difficult to achieve pregnancy.
In the presence of hydrosalpinx, the fluid accumulated inside the tube may occasionally flow back into the uterus. This fluid can prevent the embryo from implanting in the uterine wall and can significantly reduce success rates, especially in IVF treatments. Therefore, treatment planning is of great importance in patients diagnosed with hydrosalpinx.
Treatment is usually performed with laparoscopic surgery. During this procedure, the damaged tube may be completely removed (salpingectomy), or the connection between the tube and the uterus may be cut to prevent fluid from reaching the uterus. The method to be applied is determined based on the patient’s condition.
Thanks to the laparoscopic method, the surgery is performed through small incisions, the recovery process is faster, and post-operative comfort is improved. Treating hydrosalpinx is especially important for patients planning IVF treatment, as it significantly increases the chances of pregnancy.
At the Cyprus American IVF Center, hydrosalpinx treatment is performed by a team specialized in infertility, using advanced laparoscopic techniques. The treatment process is planned individually for each patient, with an approach aimed at achieving the highest success rates.
If you have been diagnosed with hydrosalpinx or would like to undergo evaluation before IVF treatment, detailed examination and treatment planning can be carried out at our center.
